# Marketplace

> Load this page when: you are browsing, subscribing to or publishing marketplace books

## For agents

- Browse with `trove marketplace browse --search "<topic>"`. It needs no sign-in.
- Never run `trove marketplace subscribe` without the user's approval.
- Publishing needs the Professional plan.

The marketplace is a catalog of books by other authors. Subscribing to a listing adds the book to your [library](https://docs.heytrove.ai/concepts/library-and-books.md), so your agent can read it like any other book.

## Ask your agent

| Task | What to tell your agent |
| --- | --- |
| Browse | "Show me the Trove marketplace." |
| Search by topic | "Find Trove marketplace books about testing." |
| Sort | "Show the newest books in the Trove marketplace." |
| Filter by tag | "Show Trove marketplace books tagged security." |
| Subscribe | "Subscribe to the testing book you found." |
| Unsubscribe | "Unsubscribe from the testing book in my Trove library." |

You can also browse in the web app at [Marketplace](https://heytrove.ai/marketplace).

## Browse

Browsing needs no account. You can ask for fewer results, for example "Show the top five." Each listing has a listing id, which your agent uses to subscribe.

## Subscribe and unsubscribe

After your agent subscribes, the book appears in your library. Unsubscribing removes it from your library. If an author delists a book, you keep read access while you stay subscribed.

## Professional books

Some listings are labelled Professional. On the Personal plan, your agent sees a preview of the first pages. Upgrade at [billing](https://heytrove.ai/billing) to read the whole book.

## Publish your own

Publishing a book needs the Professional plan. Write the book as Markdown, then publish it from the web app. See [Plans and limits](https://docs.heytrove.ai/reference/plans-and-limits.md) for what each plan includes.

## Why agents ask before subscribing

The [librarian](https://docs.heytrove.ai/subagents/librarian.md) recommends marketplace books but never subscribes on its own. To start the librarian, ask your agent explicitly: "Search my Trove library for how we handle retries." It shows an offer box when a marketplace book fits, and your agent subscribes only after you say yes. This keeps your library and your plan limits under your control.

## Best practice

Pick marketplace books that match your work, and subscribe only to the ones you choose. See [Set up your library](https://docs.heytrove.ai/usage/set-up-your-library.md). Your own documents are worth more than famous books, so see [What goes in the library](https://docs.heytrove.ai/best-practices/what-goes-in-the-library.md).

Publishing has no fixed rules, only guidance. Write the book privately first. Remove personal data and company secrets. Remember that every change to a public book is public. See [Run Trove for a team](https://docs.heytrove.ai/best-practices/run-trove-for-a-team.md).

## Direct CLI

Your agent runs these through the `trove` command. You can run them yourself in a terminal, but asking your agent is the recommended way: it picks the right flags, waits for processing and checks the result.

| Task | Command |
| --- | --- |
| Browse | `trove marketplace browse` (`--limit <n>` caps the results) |
| Search by topic | `trove marketplace browse --search "<topic>"` |
| Sort | `trove marketplace browse --sort newest` (or `popular`, `az`) |
| Filter by tag | `trove marketplace browse --tag <tag>` |
| Subscribe | `trove marketplace subscribe <listing-id>` |
| Unsubscribe | `trove marketplace unsubscribe <listing-id>` |

See the [CLI reference](https://docs.heytrove.ai/reference/cli.md) for every flag.
